The Cairns Festival seeks to deliver vibrant, progressive and collaborative art and cultural festival that speaks to their own unique stories and celebrates the distinctive colours and hues of their tropical lifestyle.
The Cairns Festival runs for 10 days and features events spanning visual arts, theatre, music, dance, film and community collaborations.
It is now official, Cairns Festival, has the biggest community parade, per capita, of all in Australia including those of Sydney’s Mardi Gras and Adelaide Fringe Festival. To encourage and support parade participants in creating and building a float, Cairns Festival is introducing a series of four, free design workshops facilitated by experienced theatre producers skilled in set, costume and prop design, Simone Tesorieri and Simona Cosentini and local sound and lighting technician, Sam Gibb.
The acclaimed Melbourne Ska Orchestra (MSO) will headline Sunday on the ‘Nard 2016, injecting a foot-stomping dose of funk-filled ska into Cairns Festival’s favourite family day out, on Sunday 28 August.
Presenting a lively act comprised of no less than 28 of Australia’s finest musicians, MSO will provide a rousing finale to the family concert by the Lagoon that is sure to win over fans young and old. This event caps off the Festival’s opening weekend of highlights that launch the 10 day program in earnest on Saturday with the iconic Grand Parade and Fireworks.
The event concludes a stellar opening weekend for Cairns Festival 2016, as thousands of revellers spread out on the lush Western Event Lawns of Cairns Esplanade to enjoy live music on the Festival Stage.
The festivities get underway early for the little ones at Muddy’s Playground, with non-stop activities from 9am to 1pm, with a large collaborative play space, face painting and a kids’ variety concert sure to leave them buzzing.
